MPE: conceitos universais e desafios contemporâneos

Abstract

Os estudos na área da gestão com base no universo das pequenas e médias empresas ganharam importante destaque no meio acadêmico, nas últimas décadas. Entretanto, conceituar com precisão as Micro e Pequenas Empresas (MPEs), mediante critérios universalmente convergentes, sempre foi um desafio para investigadores e estudiosos em diversas áreas e organismos internacionais. O objetivo principal deste texto é identificar os conceitos quantitativos e qualitativos que buscam caracterizar as empresas de menor dimensão nos diversos contextos geográficos e institucionais, definições estas que ganham os contornos da importância social e econômica que esse tecido empresarial representa para as sociedades em todo o mundo.
