Abstract

A partir del estudio de unas cartas redactadas por los monjes visitadores de la orden benedictina este trabajo pretende analizar la decoración del interior de las celdas monacales de los siglos XVII y XVIII en España. Estos espacios se llenaron de lujosos objetos que alejaron a los religiosos de la pobreza monacal que debían observar al ingresar en la Orden de San Benito. El gusto por suntuosos enseres, ricos muebles y piezas artísticas vincularon a estos monjes a la moda y la estética de la sociedad de su tiempo, tal y como se desprende del análisis de la documentación analizada.
