Desigualdades de Crecimiento Municipal en México: Un Análisis mediante Regresión Cuantílica

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar si los factores que condicionan la convergencia Beta-condicional, varían su influencia según el nivel de desarrollo económico de las regiones. Con un total de 2, 443 municipios, para los años 1989, 1995, 2000 y 2004, se realizaron estimaciones mediante regresiones cuantílicas con la tasa de crecimiento del ingreso por habitante, como variable dependiente; y, el nivel inicial de ingreso por habitante, infraestructura urbana básica (agua, drenaje, electricidad) y educación, como variables independientes. Los resultados muestran que la regresión cuantílica proporciona una perspectiva más completa de los determinantes de la convergencia económica que la regresión MCO estándar. La convergencia se ve condicionada por un comportamiento jerárquico, debido probablemente a la mayor flexibilidad de los municipios ricos para aprovechar las opciones propias y del entorno. Se constata que las variables de infraestructura básica se vuelven más grandes y significativas mientras más rico es el municipio, en tanto que el impacto de la educación parece ser similar entre los municipios ricos y pobres.
