Abstract

This paper uses the 1989 National Household Survey to evaluate the private rates of return to education in Mexico. The rates of return were calculated using the so-called “Mincerian equation”. The results indicate returns similar to those from other Latin-American countries, but lower than the results from previous studies on Mexico. The returns differ when differentiated by gender, area of residence or educational level. Finally some evidence of vintage effects were found.
