Abstract

Introducción. ¿Que consecuencias provoca en la estructura financiera de un país dependiente el alto grado de endeudamiento externo, y cuáles eran los riesgos que dicho país tenía que asumir cuando la corriente de préstamos del exterior cesaba por alguna circunstancia? El caso argentino nos ofrece una buena oportunidad de examinar lo ocurrido durante la crisis de 1890, analizando al mismo tiempo las relaciones entre centro y periferia en un sistema de patrón oro. En algunas ocasiones se ha resaltado la importancia de la vinculación entre lso empréstitos extranjeros y el efecto que éstos producían en el país receptor, pero sólo en la medida en que generaban expansión o contracción monetaria...
