Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyse the productivity evolution of Spanish manufacturing firms and to study some determinants of its growth during the period from 1990 to 2002. We propose as explanatory factors the ones related to organisational aspects and to the competitive environment of the enterprises, and a special concern is given to the impact that firms’ technologic decisions have on their results. Likewise those results permit to associate the deceleration of firms’ productivity growth during the last years of the period with two elements: on the one hand, the reduction of the proportion of firms with investments in technological activities and, on the other hand, the decrease of firms’ effectiveness to convert their investments into product and, especially, process innovations.
