Abstract

The paper presents an empirical study on a sample of manufacturing SME’s from the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country and Navarra that apply an USA homologated assessment and benchmarking tool, QuickView. The sample though small is somewhat representative of companies with more than 50 and less than 250 employees of «metallic» industries (SIC 30, 34, 35, 36). The study includes the evaluation of the 13 general performance indicators with its values and the positive and negative factors affecting that value and the relative utilization of production and management technologies and methodologies for all the companies in the sample. We also study with more detail the effect on the former of such items as the ISO 9000 certification, the industry sector, the destiny of the goods produced and the correlation between economic efficiency of the company measured as added value per employee and QuickView results.
