Incorporación laboral de la mujer en España y su efecto sobre la desigualdad en la renta familiar

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the distributive effects of the strong increase in female labor participation in Spain during the 1980s on income inequality among married couples. The results show the existence of contradictory effects among married women: the effect of changes in the distribution of the income of those working and the effect of changes in the distribution of participation rates. The former tends to diminish female contribution to inequality while the latter tends to augment it. Higher married female participation rates are the result of the increase in the average educational level and changes in labor behavior by level of education.
