Abstract

Social economy constitutes one of the essential components of the economy of participation. Social economy corporations, cooperatives, mutualities and associations account for 6% of the workers employed by all the companies of the Spanish economy. After pointing out that cooperatives constitute the vertebral column of social economy and after carrying out a classification of all of the agents that constitute it, the study offers the main statistical data in social economy through which highlight the importance of associated labour companies, cooperatives and workers incorporated, together with the convenience of developing microeconomic employment policies which incentivate this type of corporations while bearing in mind the collective advantages derived from a macroeconomic perspective.
