Abstract

The article offers a brief synopsis of the strategic approach of CORPORACION UCEM, S.A. after its conversion from the old Unión Cerrajera, S.A. into a modem Financial Corporation and how the Corporation perceives the environment in which the world economy, and especially the Basque economy, moves. After explaining the reasoning behind the reconversion of Unión Cerrajera, S.A. as a business opportunity and what the possibilities are for the new Corporation, a description is offered of the internal reflections on the role of diversification in the future of the Company and which criteria the Corporation adopted to develop this strategy, regarding decisions conceming both existing and new businesses. Finally, the strategic actions taken are described in detail, establishing the typology and criteria to participate in new businesses within the strategic framework of the CORPORACION UCEM, S.A. for the nineties and the practicar actions which have been taken until now.
