Abstract

An analysis of the problems created relating to industrial waste is presented from severas different points of view. Wastes are grouped together bearing in mind the sectors which generate these and the nature of same. With the available data, the types of waste generated in the Basque Country and in Spain are quantified, making special reference to so-called toxic and dangerous wastes (RT and P) due to the contaminants these contain or due to the danger they represent. Next, a brief analysis is made of tradicional techniques of waste removal and of their possible recovery and valorisation, special mention being given to these due to their technical-economic and environmental repercussions. An analysis is made of some lines of research and development (R ) which, within the system of Framework Programmes and other E.E.C. programmes, refer to specific subjects of the environment. Finally, a brief summary is included of the most significant points of the recent National Toxic and Dangerous Waste Programme, which we consider to be of interest for the industrial sectors and professionals involved in these matters.
