Abstract

This paper deals with the difficult dichotomy presented by the Marxian economyof productive and unproductive labor, as well as surplus, and their uses by differentagents of the economy. It analyzes the concepts in Marx, Baran as well as the developmentof the ideas throughout the history of economic thought. JEL Classification: B11; B12; B14; B51; D46.
