Abstract

This paper outlines the changing attitudes of universities towards their research resources with particular reference to intellectual property exploitation. Some of the political and commercial pressures on universities are outlined, and responses relevant to university policy on patenting and licensing are developed. The paper briefly refers to the position of U.K. universities, and specific reference is made to the author's own experiences in his own institution, University College Cork, Ireland.
