Abstract

•Access to good-quality medicines is at the forefront of global health concerns.•There is a renewed interest in local pharmaceutical production.•Donations of imported drugs may help broaden the range of locally-produced drugs.•Donations of imported drugs may help increase the quality standards used by local drug manufacturers.
