The Era of International Simple Resale: not waving, but drowning?

Abstract

Following the analogue and digital waves, the Internet wave is overtaking the telecommunications industry, introducing new levels of uncertainty. Drawing upon the insights of Littlechild, the paper outlines the significant changes in the economies of scale, the economies of scope, and the conditions of demand and supply involved in the paradigm shifts, and then illustrates the changes using Hong Kong as a case study by modelling the impact of international simple resale (ISR). The paper concludes by considering some of the principles that will determine whether the industry swims or drowns in the Internet wave.
