Social implications of computer/telecoms systems

Abstract

The usual approaches to technological forecasting and technology assessment are rejected. The author argues that the social implications of technology should be assessed from the perspective of important social aims and problems. He chooses the definition of oppurtunities and problems in the emerging Information Society as his focus for this approach. The fundamental economic shift to the Information Society raises new questions concerning the approach to traditional economic issues, as well as a series of social considerations. In conclusion, the policy problems suggested by the analysis are outlined.
