Will telecommunications remain a golden sector?

Author

Listed:
  • Golob, James

Abstract

This article describes the principal measures used for equity valuation. During the 1980s most telecommunication shares performed very well, but recently they have suffered a de-rating worldwide relative to their sector and local markets. This does not necessarily signify a loss of confidence in them, but conditions are becoming more difficult and investors will be more selective in future. Monopolies in high-growth economies will remain attractive, as will markets where the regulatory system is in its infancy.
