The development of a state telecommunications infrastructure : A survey of telephone companies and large users

Abstract

This article examines the development of a telecommunications infrastructure at the state level by presenting the results of a survey of telephone companies and large users of telecommunication services in Texas. This analysis suggests that telecommunications-intensive organizations are increasingly investing resources in establishing their own telecommunications systems and services. This development presents a threat to local telephone companies, and offers some interesting information to policymakers who are considering how to change their own telecommunications infrastructure.
