Abstract

Despite increased attention towards problem finding, the initial activity in problem solving, no integrated theory or common conceptual framework has been developed. This can partly be explained by competing vocabularies and perspectives due to the interdisciplinary nature of the topic. This paper focuses on managerial problem finding, and presents an eclectic review of major contributions addressing problem finding. A conceptual framework distinguishing between generic classes of problems and modes of problem finding is proposed. Avenues for further research are suggested.
