Abstract

To improve the power quality of the input current in electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, the use of parallel multi-pulse rectifiers has been proposed in recent years. Also, DC-side passive harmonic reduction circuits (DC-PHRCs) have been the focus of researchers for efficient circuit design for reducing THD of the input current in parallel multi-pulse rectifiers (PMPRs). One of the main advantages of DC-PHRCs is that all circuit elements are passive, so they do not require extra driver or control systems. They can be classified into single-passive harmonic reduction circuit (SPHRC), dual-passive harmonic reduction circuit (DPHRC), dual interphase reactor-based passive harmonic reduction circuit (DIPR-PHRC), and a combined passive harmonic reduction circuit (CPHRC). In previous research, the comparison of different structures of PHRCs has been based on different source and load conditions. To overcome this problem and facilitate the direction of future research, this paper provides a comprehensive classification along with an accurate and fair comparison of existing DC-PHRCs under the same source and load conditions.
