Predicting the broadband transmittance of the uniformly mixed gases (CO2, CO, N2O, CH4 and O2) in the atmosphere, for solar radiation models

Abstract

A new analytical expression for the integral transmission function corresponding to the uniformly mixed atmospheric gases (CO2, CO, N2O, CH4 and O2) is proposed for use in solar radiation models. This expression is based on the latest spectral absorption data of the uniformly mixed gases, as well as on the Neckel and Labs (Solar Phys.90, 205–258, 1984) model, incorporating the most recent corrections of the extraterrestrial solar spectrum introduced by Wehrli (Publication no. 615, Physikalisch-Meteorologisches Observatorium and World Radiation Center, Davos-Dorf, 1985) and Vanhoosier et al. (Proc. 8th Workshop on Vacuum Ultraviolet Radiometric Calibration of Space Experiments, 1987; Astro. Left. Commun.27, 163–168, 1988). The proposed method can be easily incorporated into solar radiation models to predict solar radiation on the Earth's surface.
