Direct convective passive cooling as an energy conserving technique in the maritime desert climate of the Arabian Gulf region

Abstract

Convective cooling, in its various forms, has been selectively used as one of the elementary yet significant means of maintaining indoor comfort in the harsh climate of the region. A research programme to identify the potential of such several passive solar cooling techniques for their possible incorporation in the design and construction of contemporary detached dwellings of the area was initiated at the King Faisal University sponsored by the Joint Saudi Arabian-United States Programme for Co-operation in the Field of Solar Energy (SOLERAS).
