Abstract

The theory of ageing is at the center of this paper. We test the mutation accumulation theory by using the Penna model introducing higher death rates for selected parts of the population. The changes in the mutation accumulation curves obtained cannot be explained by a simple monotonic function, but depend on the relation between the procreation age threshold and the “endangered” age. In the second part we use this model to simulate a prey-predator type problem. We find only small oscillation in opposition to the standard Volterra-Lotka model.
