The one-dimensional spinless Falicov-Kimball model with periodic configurations of localized electrons

Abstract

The one-dimensional, spinless Falicov-Kimball model is studied exactly. Using a method based on the continued fraction theory, explicit formulae for the density of states, density of electrons and total energy are derived. The results are pertinent for any periodic configuration of localized electrons and any Coulomb interaction strength between itinerant and localized electrons. Many regularities found in the system are presented and discussed.
