Proton and deutron glasses

Abstract

Recent progress towards understanding the glass-like behavior of mixed hydrogen-bonded ferroelectric crystals, also known as proton and deuteron glasses, is reviewed. It is argued that the mean-field theory of spin glasses applied to the random-bond-random-field Ising model provides a valid description of crucial experiments such as the temperature dependence of the NMR line shape and the field-cooled and zero-field-cooled dielectric susceptibility.
