Effective medium theory of diffusion-controlled reactions among stationary perfect sinks

Abstract

We calculate the effective rate constant k∗ and the effective diffusion constant D∗ of diffusion-controlled reactions in a random array of perfectly absorbing spherical sinks. We use the effective medium approach developed by Cukier, Freed and Muthukumar. In contrast to their work we take the concentration of the reactive field to be zero inside the sinks. This appreciably affects the results for k∗ and D∗.
