Abstract

The master equation for the mean field Ising model is derived from the Liouville formalism and cast into the same form as one usually writes the phenomenological master equation. Thus all constants including the time scale entering the phenomenological approach are well defined. The connection with the time dependent Landau-Ginzburg equation and the evaluation of the rate constants are emphasized. The possible growth of an initial inhomogeneity is discussed by examining a first order perturbation solution.
