Modeling cellular agign and tumorigenic transformation

Abstract

Numerous diverse mathematical models have been proposed, in an effort to explain and study the variety of aging processes which occur at the cellular level. This paper will detail the formalization of a framework for studying the propagation of a collection of biological properties through an asynchronously dividing cellular system. We will discuss the problem of modeling asynchrony of division. We will then discuss the problem of modeling the propagation of a single discrete biological property through the system. We will extend this result to a single continuous property. We will then examine how more appropriate equations may be used to give the number of cells which will enter mitosis at any time t. Finally, we will discuss the incorporation of tumorigenic transformation into the model.
