Abstract

In the contemporary context, prioritizing sustainable development is crucial for meeting present needs while safeguarding the well-being of future generations. This study examines the influence of mineral resource prices and resource efficiency on the sustainable development of 32 Chinese provinces from 1980 to 2021, using CUP-FM analysis. Results indicate a positive correlation between resource efficiency and sustainable development, with a 1 % increase associated with approximately a 0.25 % enhancement in the sustainable development index. Notably, the impact of mineral resource prices on sustainability surpasses that of resource efficiency. Control variables, including financial market size, ICT development, investment flows, and population size, also contribute to sustainable development. The study proposes practical policy recommendations, such as promoting sustainable resource consumption through progressive pricing and targeted subsidies, to address resource scarcity and advance sustainability.
