Economic corruption, green recovery, and mineral trade relationships in emerging economies

Abstract

Exploring the intricate nexus among mineral trade, green recovery, and economic corruption is vital for comprehending the dynamics shaping sustainable economic development. This study investigates the impact of economic corruption and mineral trade volume on the sustainable growth of 21 emerging countries from 2010 to 2021. Results indicate that increased mineral trade volume correlates with reduced green growth, signifying heightened extraction hindering sustainability. Similarly, economic corruption impedes green growth by diverting resources. Urban population size and Consumer Price Index act as barriers, while internet access and Human Development Index motivate green growth. Addressing these challenges requires strategic policies, including regulations and incentives to counteract adverse effects, transparent governance, and anti-corruption measures. Urban planning, digitalization, and sustainable governance practices emerge as essential elements for fostering green growth in emerging economies.
