Coupling high natural resources and carbon emission efficiency on economic growth in China

Abstract

China, the world's most populous nation, has seen rapid expansion in recent decades. The burning of fossil fuels has contributed significantly to this increase because of the country's heavy reliance on extracting plentiful natural resources. However, the possible effects on long-term economic development and the environment have caused significant concern. This study focuses on how efficient use of natural resources and reduction in carbon emissions are linked to economic development in China. Using the 2005–2020 entropy weight approach and the coupling coordination degree evaluation method, we investigated the relationship between high natural resource regions, economic stability, infrastructure, and resource utilization efficiency. Our research indicates that combining low carbon emissions and the efficient use of natural resources may help China's economy thrive sustainably. We provide several suggestions for future studies to help Chinese officials strike a better balance between economic development and environmental conservation.
