Abstract

Managing natural resources involves the sustainable use of land, water, air, minerals, forests, fisheries, and wildlife. These ecosystem services improve human life. Natural resources are fundamental to life despite their use for consumption and public goods. Environmental processes increase soil productivity, recycle nutrients, clean air and water, and regulate climate. This paper explores the impacts of agriculture productivity and alternative energy sources on natural resources, considering the roles of imports of goods and services and economic growth in China from 1980 to 2018. Results show that the agriculture productivity index and alternative energy sources decrease natural resource depletion, while economic growth and imports of goods and services increase it. The long-term use of natural resources must be maintained while minimizing their environmental impact and maximizing their social value. By planning or managing the world's natural resources, we can ensure their integrity for present and future generations, including air, water, land, flora, and fauna. Policymakers must ensure that the earth's capacity for producing renewable resources is maintained and improved wherever possible. Study limitations and future research directions are mentioned.
