OR/MS, its interaction with and benefit from Japanese organizational intelligence

Abstract

Consideration is given to the concept of 'organizational intelligence' as the total intellectual problem-handling capability of an organization and its functioning is shown to be essentially isomorphic to that of OR/MS. Some factors which might be said to have contributed to the success of OR/MS in Japanese organizations are then enumerated and interpreted in their relationship to organizational intelligence. Finally, some suggestions are made as to how Japanese organizations may transform themselves to achieve further success in OR/MS, and "S3 (Synthesis, Symbiosis and Synergy)-Integration" of human intelligence and artificial intelligence is proposed to accelerate the enhancement of organizational intelligence.
