•Discusses how Silicon Valley entrepreneurship was mythologized and how the myth persisted over time.•Shows how Silicon Valley entrepreneurship myths develop out of the past.•Explore what role the built environment plays for myths.•Discusses sources of inspirations for more inclusive entrepreneurship myths.
