Abstract

Fintech has emerged as a formidable force in overcoming the limitations of the traditional financial system. Using data from 297 Chinese cities between 2010 and 2021, we determine that fintech significantly boosts urban entrepreneurial activity by enhancing human capital and industrial upgrading. Fintech's entrepreneurship-boosting effect is particularly pronounced in regions to the southeast of the Hu Line and in technologically advanced cities.
