Abstract

Promoting low-carbon development in the transportation sector is essential for addressing climate change effectively. This study analyzes data from 30 provincial transportation industries in China using a global Quadratic Assignment Procedure model to assess changes in carbon total factor productivity. Key findings include: (1) from 2005 to 2022, the low-carbon economic efficiency in China's transportation sector initially decreased and then improved, though it remained generally low. (2) The factors influencing transportation carbon total factor productivity varied across the study periods, transitioning from scale to structural influences. In conclusion, the paper suggests controlling carbon emissions, optimizing transportation structures, and building high-quality infrastructure to promote sustainable development in China's transportation sector.
