Innovative procurement mechanisms for the commercialization of energy-efficient lighting and ventilation products

Abstract

The Swedish National Board for Industrial and Technical Development has introduced a number of innovative technology procurement processes for public and commercial buildings. To date, agreements have been signed with participants who control some 35 million square meters of floor area, nearly 30% of the total for such buildings. The objective was for participants to purchase energy-efficient lighting and ventilation products that meet or surpass the energy performance targets of 10 W/m2 for lighting and 1 kW/m3-sec. for ventilation. In new construction and retrofit of existing buildings, reductions in electricity use and power demand for lighting and ventilation range from 40 to 70%.
