Abstract

Combustion of propane is investigated in a fluidized-bed incinerator pilot-plant facility to assess its appropriateness as an auxiliary fuel for co-combustion. The available literature on propane combustion in fluidized beds is reviewed and assessed. In conjunction with another low calorific value fuel, the combustion of propane can raise the incinerator temperature to a desired higher level and thereby yield more environmentally acceptable thermal destruction. High carbon utilization and thermal combustion efficiencies have been achieved for propane combustion and have been investigated in conjunction with two propane burners to obtain favorable conditions for fluidized-bed combustion. The effects on propane combustion of such operating parameters as fluidizing velocity, propane feed rate, temperature of combustion, and excess air are discussed.
