Abstract

A transient analysis is presented of a double-basin solar still coupled to a flat-plate solar collector in the thermosiphon mode. Explicit expressions are derived for the temperatures of the upper glass-cover, the water in the upper basin, the lower glass-cover, and the water in the lower basin, as well as for the distillate output and system efficiency. The proposed system has been compared with a system using a forced circulation mode. The performance of the system operated with forced circulation is slightly better than that of the system using thermosiphon mode.
