The oil and energy outlook in the Asia-Pacific region

Abstract

Exxon expects that the economic growth of the Asia-Pacific region will continue to exceed that of the rest of the world but that energy conservation and structural change will continue to lower the energy required per unit of economic growth. Alternate energy resources, particularly nuclear, coal, and gas, will continue to substitute for oil and lighten the demand mix for oil products. This will place severe strains on the regional oil industry, making it more dependent on transportation demand.
