Effects of edges on solar-energy collection in small solar ponds

Abstract

In small-size ponds, the shading by the side walls affects the collection and storage of solar energy. In this paper, the influence of the aspect ratio, pond size, convective-zone thickness, and bottom-surface reflectivity on the collection and storage of solar energy is examined analytically, and the relative importance of such factors is illustrated.
