Crude oil imports into the United States

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine three issues concerning the imports of crude oil by the United States. First, the question of whether crude oil imports respond to relative price changes is asked. Second, if crude oil imports do respond to such a factor, what is the nature of this response? Third, if crude oil imports do respond to changing relative prices, has this response been stable over time? The results presented here answer each of these questions. Crude oil imports do respond to changing relative price differentials. Additionally, this response is fairly rapid. Finally, the response is shown to be stable over time.
