Emancipación residencial en el Cono Sur: análisis comparativo de Chile y el Uruguay, 2008-2018

Abstract

En este trabajo se describen los calendarios de emancipación residencial en Chile y el Uruguay entre 2008 y 2018, por sexo, nivel educativo y motivo de emancipación. Se utilizó el análisis de historia de eventos y las encuestas de juventud, y se observó que en Chile la proporción de jóvenes que salen del hogar parental es inferior a la del Uruguay. Esa diferencia se atribuye a que en Chile hay menos protección social y a que las políticas de juventud son débiles. En el Uruguay, la emancipación residencial se mantuvo estable en el período estudiado, mientras que en Chile aumentó, posiblemente debido a las reformas en la educación superior y los subsidios de alquiler. Pese a las particularidades, los patrones de emancipación de ambos países son similares y la interacción entre el género y la educación ha dado lugar a diferencias entre los calendarios de emancipación de los distintos grupos poblacionales.
