Participación laboral femenina y disponibilidad de guarderías públicas en el Brasil

Abstract

El empleo femenino desempeña un papel fundamental ya que contribuye a los ingresos familiares y a mitigar la pobreza en los países de América Latina y el Caribe. A pesar del aumento de la participación laboral femenina a lo largo de la última década, las mujeres siguen enfrentando importantes restricciones para trabajar. El presente estudio analiza si la disponibilidad de guarderías constituye una de estas restricciones. Una reforma llevada a cabo en el Brasil a nivel federal en 2006 y 2007 promovió el aumento de las plazas disponibles en guarderías públicas. Se emplea un diseño cuasiexperimental de diferencias en diferencias para valorar si este incremento afecta al empleo de madres cuyo hijo o hija menor tiene 4 años o menos. Los resultados muestran que la reforma tuvo una asociación positiva con la participación laboral femenina, superior en madres casadas que no obtuvieron el título de educación secundaria.
