Uso de las estadísticas vitales en programas de prevención de las muertes maternas

Abstract

El estudio retrospectivo del subregistro de la mortalidad materna en la Capital Federal se basa en el análisis de 65 muertes maternas ocurridas en mujeres de 14-49 años durante 1985, determinadas a partir de los certificados de defunción y de la comparación de los mismos con las historias clínicas de las pacientes. De las 65 muertes, el 38.5 por ciento no aparece consignada como tal en el certificado de defunción. Si esta proporción se aplica a las 93 historias clínicas que no pudieron ser analizadas, el total de muertes maternas sería de 91,4 por 100 mil nacidos vivos (frente a 50 por 100 mil obtenida a partir de los certificados de defunción). El 86 por ciento de las muertes se relacionan con factores del post-parto destacando la elevada incidencia del aborto y de la sepsia no relacionada con el aborto (p.251).
