La naturaleza del método del hijo previo

Abstract

El método del hijo previo (MHP) consiste en preguntar a las mujeres próximas a dar a luz sobre la sobrevivencia de los hijos anteriores. La proporción de hijos previos fallecidos da un índice de mortalidad infantil temprana. Desde el punto de vista matemático, si se utilizan ciertos modelos de la fecundidad y mortalidad o si se simula una recopilación de datos a aplicar el método a historias de nacimientos, se demuestra que la mortalidad infantil temprana es equivalente a la probabilidad de morir entre el nacimiento y una edad I*, que es aproximadamente 4/5 del intervalo intergenésico medio, I. El momento cronológico de las estimaciones del método del hijo previo es de alrededor de 2/3xI antes de la recopilación de información.
