El impacto de los encadenamientos hacia atrás entre las empresas multinacionales y las pymes sobre los salarios, el empleo y las exportaciones

Abstract

Los encargados de la formulación de políticas suelen buscar formas de atraer la inversión extranjera directa de las empresas multinacionales. En el presente artículo se estima el impacto de un programa, Costa Rica Provee, cuyo objeto es aumentar los encadenamientos hacia atrás entre las pequeñas y medianas empresas (pymes) y las empresas multinacionales en dicho país. Los efectos se miden en función del salario real medio, la demanda de empleo y la probabilidad de exportar, mediante una combinación de efectos fijos y de emparejamiento por probabilidad de participación. Se usan datos de panel sobre empresas tratadas y no tratadas en el período que va de 2001 a 2011. El salario medio, la demanda de empleo y la probabilidad de exportar de las beneficiarias del programa fueron superiores a los de las empresas no tratadas; la dosis y la duración también tuvieron una incidencia importante.
