Productividad, crecimiento y exportaciones industriales en Brasil

Abstract

La relación entre la productividad, el crecimiento industrial y las exportaciones de productos manufacturados es objeto de creciente consideración en los estudios sobre el desarrollo y la política comercial, ya que la productividad es un elemento determinante de las ventajas comparativas en el mediano y largo plazo. Este artículo analiza dicha relación en el Brasil, donde la productividad industrial muestra aumentos decrecientes desde mediados de los años setenta, y estudia dicha desaceleración y sus causas, entre ellas las condiciones macroeconómicas, las estrategias comerciales, las políticas de crecimiento y las tendencias tecnológicas. Asimismo, examina los aspectos teóricos de las relaciones entre el crecimiento, la productividad y la orientación exportadora; presenta el desempeño y la estructura de las exportaciones de productos manufacturados de Brasil, así como las variaciones de su competitividad, conforme a diferentes estimaciones; profundiza su análisis con los datos del censo industrial de 1985, y, por último, formula algunas conclusiones principales.
