La brecha de calidad en la educación chilena

Abstract

La brecha en la calidad de la educación chilena debido a la dependencia administrativa de las escuelas, especialmente de las municipalizadas y privadas subvencionadas, se ha analizado y debatido largamente respecto de la eficiencia relativa y el papel de la educación pública. Las diferencias no condicionales en los resultados de los tests estandarizados y que favorecen a las escuelas privadas disminuyen al controlar por factores sociodemográficos, pero persiste un debate sobre las variables de control, la metodología más apropiada y, finalmente, la magnitud de la reducción. Aquí se aplica un metanálisis sobre 17 de los principales trabajos acerca del tema y se constata la importancia de la sensibilidad de los resultados a los controles y métodos de estimación, detectándose que en el agregado existe una diferencia del orden de cuatro puntos en los resultados en favor de las escuelas privadas subvencionadas, que es estadísticamente significativa y educacionalmente relevante
