Abstract

In this study, the results of the analysis of the employees at the establishment where the survey was done in order to determine the awareness and attitudes of the employees according to the demographic characteristics of the employees were tested. The sample of the study consists of the 150 employees of the K?r?ehir Sugar Factory reached through the convenience sampling method in October 2015. The aim of the research is to determine to what degree the employees are informed regarding occupational health and safety training, which holds an important place in the working life and determine their awareness regarding this topic. Today, in line with the research carried out, it has been seen that occupational health and safety training and having an occupational health and safety expert present at workplaces are being given considerable importance by workplaces. However, when the literature in this field is examined, it was seen that there are an inadequate number of studies aimed at determining the effectiveness of the training provided and the awareness of the employees thereof and for this reason, an effort has been made in this study to make a contribution that will fill the void in the aforementioned topic. In addition, directing work aimed at taking the necessary measures and precautions according to results obtained from the study is another purpose. In the research done with a view to this end, a set of questions aimed at measuring the age, educational status, period of employment at the establishment and the awareness concerning occupational health and safety training and practices of the employees were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 for Windows software package. As a result of the analysis, a significant difference was found between the educational status of the employees and the adequacy of the warning signs related to occupational safety at the workplace and the adequacy of the knowledge of the managment on the matter of occupational health and safety. Another significant difference seen that between the age of the employees and the belief that occupational health and safety affected working life. In addition, some proposals concerning theory and practice have been made with the purpose of contributing to other research in accordance with the results of the research.
